Jakhiya (Wild Mustard Seeds)

Jakhiya (Wild Mustard Seeds)

Jakhiya is a traditional wild mustard seed sourced from the Jaunsar Bawar belt of Uttarakhand, a region known for its distinct food heritage and mountain-grown ingredients.

Smaller in size than regular mustard seeds, jakhiya is prized in Himalayan cooking for its intense aroma and unique tempering quality. When added to hot oil or ghee, these tiny seeds crackle beautifully and release a deep, nutty, earthy flavour that instantly transforms simple dishes.

In the kitchens of Uttarakhand, jakhiya is used to bring character to everyday food — from pahadi aloo and leafy greens to dals and regional curries. Though small in appearance, it carries a bold identity and is considered one of the most distinctive ingredients of traditional pahadi cooking.

At Poit From Hills, our jakhiya is sourced from the Jaunsar Bawar region, bringing an authentic Himalayan ingredient from the hills to your kitchen.
